What's so special about this MSc Program?
First, it has an international character:
- Lecturers and students from many different countries
- Teaching in English
- European Double Master's Degree
- An internationally recognized certificate
It is also special because it provides a link between theory and practical industrial applications. Two of the most important areas are:
- Formal methods in artificial intelligence (e.g., robotics, natural language processing)
- Formal methods in design and manufacturing (e.g., software verification)

Which qualifications do I need for admission?
You will need a three-year Bachelor's degree or an equivalent level of university qualification. More details are given on the page about the MCL/For_Prospective_Students/Study_Prerequisites/en prerequisites for entering the MSc Program.
If you have obtained particularly good grades in a Bachelor's degree but have not studied the above subjects, you may also be considered for the course.
Do I need to learn German to study Computational Logic?
No, this is not necessary. The courses are taught in English.
Do I need a good knowledge of English?
Yes you do because all lectures, discussions and study materials are in English. If English is not your native language, you will need a certificate demonstrating your proficiency in English. More details are given on the page about language tests.
Are there any tuition fees?
- Students of this program must pay tuition fee amounting to 500 € or 1500 € per semester

Do you provide any scholarships?
We do not have any scholarships at our disposal. Students should apply for financial support to German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German embassies or consulates or other local authorities in their home countries. However, we do have information on relevant support programs on the page about grants. Prospective students should pay attention to the deadlines and apply on time.
How long does the program last?
Two years (four semesters), including the semester for the MSc thesis. Students who have obtained the study requirements at a German university should spend one semester of the regular study period at a university-level institution in a country other than Germany.
Where can I get an application form?
Application forms can be downloaded on the page about MCL/For_Prospective_Students/How_Apply/en how to apply. If you have difficulties obtaining the application form electronically, please send us your full name and postal address and we will send you the materials by mail.
Do I need a visa?
Yes, you will need a student visa. You are not allowed to study with a tourist visa.
Chinese students must apply for the APS-certificate (as condition concerning student visa) at the German embassy in Beijing:

This authority will make an interview with the applicants and check the relevant documents. If the interview was successful students can apply for a shortened visa procedure. The Technische Universität Dresden will only admit Chinese students who send their APS-certificate to the CL secretary.
What is the application deadline?
We accept applications until 31st May for courses starting in October. However, since the semester starts in October, and the issuing of a student visa can take up to two months (depending on your home country) you are advised to submit your application as early as possible.
What are the living expenses for a student in Dresden?
Living expenses vary from person to person, but about 500,- EUR per month represent the average expenses for a student in Dresden. This would include the rent for a place in a dormitory, food, textbooks etc.
Can you provide addresses of reasonable guest houses, in case I cannot enter my room immediately?
Consider booking a room in a youth hostels. We maintain a list of inexpensive accommodation on the page about advice for international students.

For German students: BAföG?
German students can apply for a 10-semester financial support at the Studentenwerk. The support will be granted under the BAföG/AföRG regulations.
