Visa Information

Before studying

  • Non-EU-nationals must apply for the German student visa in your home country. The original TUD admission letter, the passport and a proof that you can finance the period of study are needed for the visa application.
  • Please note that you are not allowed to enter Germany with a tourist visa: The conversion into a visa for study purposes is not possible after entry! You are strongly advised to apply at an early stage and to consider that the issue of visa can take more than three months.
  • Information on the visa application procedure is provided here.

After entering Germany

  • After entering Germany, you must register with the Resident's Registration Office (Bürgerbüro) in Dresden. The registration of residence must be completed within 7 days after acquiring a flat or student dormitory room. This also concerns students from European countries.
  • You must apply for the extension of the resident's permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung) to the Foreign Nationals Office (Ausländerbehörde) within 3 months after entering the Federal Republic of Germany.
  • Further information on the registration in Dresden is provided by the TUD International Office web pages, see: Register with the Resident's Registration Office
